Bet you thought this was going to be about turning! Nope. It's about me! I thought you would be simply fascinated by knowing more about the man behind the turnings. :-)
One of the sites I visit had the members do a profile on themselves, in both a check-off list as well as additional comments, and I've taken parts of it for here. So, here it is, unapologetically:
ME
Hobbies and Interests
Carpentry/Woodworking, Reading, Learning. I'd rather know a little about a lot of different things, than be an expert in any area.
Type of Person I Am
Animal Lover, Computer Addict, Humorous, Sedentary. If the Good Lord meant us to walk, he wouldn't have created Henry Ford. Night owl, NOT a morning person; again, if the Good Lord meant for us to work during the day, he wouldn't have given us the electric light!
Pets I Own
Dogs, A wonderful brown miniature poodle, Bear (as in Teddy Bear, Pooh Bear), although it is not clear who owns whom.
Sports I Participate In
None! Exercise is dangerous to your health. Just look at all the injured professional athletes--what chance do we amateurs have? As Robert Morley said, "Whenever I feel the urge to exercise, I promptly lie down!"
My Favorite Colors
Maroon, particularly combined with gray.
Types of Food I Like
Food! I don't like some consistencies, like okra, eggplant, etc.. I believe that food should not feel like it is moving of its own volition in your mouth!
Types of Music I Like
Classic Rock, Classical, Hard Rock, Jazz, Pop Rock, Rhythm and Blues. The 70s had a lot of good things going for them; however, disco was NOT one of those things.
Types of Books I Like
Anything. I live across from a library--even WALK there, as the parking lot is as far from the entrance as my house is (see Exercise above). The proximity changed my reading, as I never buy books (I donate turnings), so I became adventurous in what I read.
Types of Movies I Like
Videos. They are a lot cheaper than going to the movies, you don't have to listen to other people's comments, and you can put it on pause while you take bathroom breaks (more important as I get older!)
Other Things About Me
I emigrated to the US when I was 23, and felt right at home almost from day one--I have a theory that I was actually born to a dentist couple in Hoboken, NJ, and somehow ended up in India! I worked as a market researcher; yes, I hire the people who call you during dinner and want to ask you (a few) questions about underarm deodorants! I'm semi-retired, which means that I don't chase work any more, but will do specific kinds of studies if they come my way. I've been married twice. The first one was brief, but Janet and I have now been together for 23 years. It's taken a lot of hard work (we are both independent people, used to getting our way), but I can't imagine what my life would be like without her now. I try not to ever take marriage for granted (none of this "happily ever after" myth, which is probably one of the biggest disservices done to children). Rather, I remember an interview Morley Safer (of 60 minutes) did with a couple that had been married for 60+ years. He asked the husband, with a smile, if he liked married life. "Well," said the guy contemplatively, "It's been pretty good.......so far". I hope that I can still make that statement 40 years from now!
