| Carved, Dyed Pot 8.5"D 4"H | |
| I had turned this American Indian pot out of pine, and while it was a fine shape, I wanted to do something more with it. So it sat on my shelf, until I took a class in surface treatments from one of my club members. I took this to the class with me, and, under his guidance, started to carve it in a random pattern all around the piece. In some places, I really carved out big chunks of the wood. I took it home and stared at it some more, and decided to dye it. I started with brown, and then added yellows and reds in various parts, and, over time, it began to look more and more like a piece of rusted metal, which is not what I had in mind when I started. I like it when people look at this, do a doubletake, and ask, incredulously, "That's pine?" | ![]() |
